- Check the pressure in your tires at least once a month
- Find the recommended tire pressure in your Owner's Manual or on the tire pressure placard inside the drivers door, door pillar, or glovebox
- Tires lose about one pound per square inch (PSI) every 30 days, and an additional 1 PSI for every 10 degree drop in temperature
- Measure the tire pressure when the tires are cold (car parked for at least one hour in the shade, or early morning
- Pump or deflate to the proper pressure
- Maximum pressure imprinted on the tires is NOT the proper pressure
- Under-inflated tires wear our faster, create excessive heat, lessen fuel economy, and make your car hard to handle
- Over-inflated tires can "blow-out" more easily, wear faster, and make car unstable and hard to handle
- More than 6 years old: tires degrade over time depending on many factors (weather, storage conditions, conditions of use, etc)
- Tread has worn down to less than 3/32"
- Bulges, blisters, or bubbles
- Cracking in the tread grooves
- Punctures, cuts, separation in tire tread, or sidewall
- Sudden loss of tire pressure
- Poor handling on slippery surfaces
- Pulling to one side while driving
- Sudden vibration while driving
- Tires that have been driven when flat
Closely examine your tires to determine if the tire is wearing properly or if replacement should be considered.
- Excessive wear on the inner or outer edge of the tire suggests something may be wrong with the wheel alignment.
- Center of the tire is quicker to wear than the edges, then the tire is likely over-inflated.
- Outer edges of the tire wears faster than the center, the tire is likely under-inflated.
- Diagonal scalloping on the tire, known as cupping wear, suggests the suspension may be worn, bent or somehow compromised.
- Patchy wear implies the tire is out of balance.
If you are unsure about what are you are looking at, stop by the
